Rances "Kid Blast" Barthelemy Challenges Juan Carlos Selgado

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA - Recent reports have IBF super featherweight champion, Juan Carlos Salgado (26-1-1, 16 KO's) looking for an opponent for his scheduled title defense this November. LOOK NO FURTHER. Rances Barthelemy (17-0, 11 KO's), #6 in the IBF world rankings, says he is ready, willing and able to fight Salgado for his world title.

"I respect Salgado for his courage to fight Gamboa, maybe the best Cuban fighter. I am also an undefeated Cuban boxer with a world rating. I will fight you anywhere. You were ready to fight one Cuban, now fight me instead. Give me a shot at your belt.", said Barthelemy.

Barthelemy's manager, Henry Foster, said: "Rances trained for two years in the gym with Glen Johnson, whose motto, 'I don't say I'm the best, I just want to fight the best', apparently rubbed off on him. We were aiming for a title shot next year, but we're ready to pull the trigger if Salgado gives us the chance to fight him for his title. I hope Salgado's people don't take the typical 'safety first' approach to a voluntary title defense, that is, lobbying to insert a hand picked opponent into the rankings, and producing a predictable fight in which no one benefits, especially the fans, who deserve exciting and competitive championship bouts."

"Rances is an exciting fighter who has worked hard to earn his world ranking in the IBF", said Macke Roberts, Director of Marketing and Media for "Kid Blast". "The fall out of the Gamboa-Salgado fight could provide fans the opportunity to see another explosive Cuban warrior compete against a current Mexican sensation. A Salgado-Barthelemy world title fight is sure to do great box office and big ratings on Mexican television. Warriors Boxing and Bad Dog Productions, co-promote the 26 year old Cuban contender. They told me they totally endorse the challenge to Salgado by Barthelemy."

Fortuna Ready For The World

"A victory (over Cristobal Cruz) would mean that I'm ready for big things and big fights against the world champions."

Featherweight magician Javier "El Abejon" Fortuna (19-0, 14 KOs) is in heavy preparation for his upcoming showdown with former IBF Featherweight Champion Cristobal Cruz (39-13, 23 KOs) on Friday, July 6, at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, and televised live on ESPN Friday Night Fights.

The 22-year-old southpaw from La Romana, Dominican Republic, is one of the hottest young fighters in the world, coming off his spectacular Friday Night Fights-televised first-round annihilation of Yuandale Evans last April.

Fortuna and Cruz will meet in the main event of the Sampson Boxing and Greg Cohen Promotions show entitled "The Moment of Truth", which will also feature Russian heavyweight power puncher Magomed "Mago" Abdusalamov (14-0, 14 KOs) defending his WBC United States (USNBC) Silver Heavyweight Championship in a 10-round battle against fellow up-and-coming heavyweight Maurice "Freight Train" Byarm (13-1-1, 9 KOs).

The opportunity to fight Cruz came earlier this month when the event's original main event fell apart due to injury.

During a break in training Fortuna sat down to answer the following questions, via translator.

Isn't this a tough fight to take on somewhat short notice? How do you feel about it?

All the fights are difficult and all opponents go into the ring to beat you. I feel good because since my last fight I have continued to train hard.

What do you think of Cristobal as a fighter?

Like all Mexican fighters, he's strong and comes forward, but we are prepared for everything.

What did your last fight do for your confidence?

The only confidence I have is that I train really hard. I beat an undefeated fighter and that just made me keep working hard and want it even more.

What would a victory over Cristobal Cruz mean for your career?
A victory would mean that I'm ready for big things and big fights against the world champions.

You are a young man. Are you ready for the added pressure that comes with stepping up to a main event televised fighter?

Yes I'm ready for all the pressure. I know this is a fight against a great boxer like Cristobal Cruz, but we are ready.

How will this fight end?

I'm going to try to do my boxing and beat him by KO.

Tell me about fighting for Sampson Boxing.

It's going very well and I'm proud to be fighting for him. I'm very happy he's in charge of my career.

What was the reaction from fans in the Dominican to your last fight?

They are very loyal and follow all my fights. They were very happy because I beat Evans.

Headlining the undercard, popular heavyweight and current interim PABA Heavyweight Champion "Bronco" Billy Wright (37-4, 28 KOs) will continue his successful comeback in a 10-round bout.

Also scheduled to fight six-round bouts are Las Vegas, via Puerto Rico, super middleweight Carlos De Leon Jr (21-3-2, 14 KOs); and undefeated Las Vegas featherweight Rocco Santomauro (8-0).

Scheduled for four-rounders are Jackson, Michigan, cruiserweight William "Lil' Tyson" Williams (5-2-1, 4 KOs); Henderson, Nevada, cruiserweight Brandon Harris (5-0, 3 KOs) and Romanian import Ronald Gavril (2-0, 1 KO).

Tickets for "The Moment of Truth" are priced at $29 general admission, $44 reserved, $104 ringside and $204 VIP and are available at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino box office daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and through Ticketmaster, either by calling 702-474-4000 or 800-745-3000, or by going online at ticketmaster.com.

On fight night, doors open at 5:00 p.m. and the event starts at 5:30 p.m.

All bouts are subject to change.

ENRIQUE ORNELAS AT HARD ROCK HOTEL & CASINO IN LAS VEGAS ON JUNE 2, LIVE ON FOX SPORTS NET AND FOX DEPORTES
WITH FUEL TV TO AIR ON DELAYED BASIS

LAS VEGAS - On Saturday, June 2 two of the talent-rich welterweight division's top prospects, Joseph Elegele and Lanard Lane, will meet in the co-main event of the card headlined by the WBA Light Heavyweight World Championship fight between Beibut Shumenov and Enrique Ornelas at The Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nev., both of which will be televised live on FOX Sports Net and FOX Deportes, as well as on a delayed basis on FUEL TV.

Shumenov (12-1, 8 KO's) puts his WBA crown on the line against former super middleweight world title challenger Enrique Ornelas (33-7, 21 KO's) in the 12-round main event.

Shumenov vs. Ornelas is promoted by Golden Boy Promotions and KZ Event Productions and sponsored by Corona and DeWalt Tools. The FOX Sports Net and FOX Deportes bilingual simulcast will air live at 10:00 p.m. ET/7:00 p.m. PT. FUEL TV will rebroadcast the fight on Sunday, July 1, at 12:00 p.m. ET/9:00 a.m. PT.

A power puncher with five first round knockouts to his name, Winter Haven, Florida's Joseph Elegele (12-1, 10 KO's) delivers excitement every time he steps into the ring and Saturday night's fight gives him a chance to shine on the world stage. A professional since 2009, the 27-year-old southpaw is coming off of a controversial technical decision loss to fellow prospect Aaron Martinez in July of last year, and he can't wait to get back in the ring and get back in the win column.

A Philadelphia fighter to the core, 29-year-old Lanard Lane (13-1, 8 KO's) may make his home in Houston these days, but when the going gets tough, he is ready to throw down and make his fellow Philly warriors proud. The owner of wins over tough competitors like Dairo Esalas and John Brown, Lane bounced back from the lone loss of his professional career against Mike Dallas in 2010 by stopping Milton Ramos in eight rounds in March. Now he has his sights on a similar result against fellow prospect Elegele this weekend.

Hudaynazarov, fighting out of Las Vegas, is the reigning WBA FEDALATIN 147-pound champion and world rated No. 15 by the WBA. Known as a devastating body puncher, the former Uzbekistan amateur boxing standout and KZ Event Productions promoted rising star who turns 28 the night of the official weigh-in (Friday), steps-up in class to fight current WBO Latino welterweight champion Euri "Millon" Gonzalez (20-1-1, 14 KO's), whose only loss was to WBC Super Welterweight World Champion Canelo Alvarez, in an intriguing eight-round fight.

Seeing action in a televised undercard fight is rising middleweight prospect Daquan Arnett (3-0, 2 KO's) of Orlando, Florida who faces Yosmani Abreu (2-2-1) of Las Vegas in a four round bout.

Also featured will be featherweight Johnny Reyes (1-0, 1 KO), from Lancaster, Calif., who will square off against Uriel Torres, of Los Angeles, Calif. making his professional debut, in a four round fight and Russian middleweight Dmitry Chudinov (6-0-1, 3 KO's), who now resides in Winter Haven, Florida, who will battle an opponent to be determined in a six-round tilt.

Diaz to meet Sanchez at “Battle at the Boat 87"

Tacoma, WA - Junior lightweight prospect Joel Diaz will look to take another step in the right direction when he battles Guillermo Sanchez Saturday, June 2 in the main event of “Battle at the Boat 87.”

The card is promoted by Halquist Productions and takes place at the Emerald Queen Casino in Tacoma, WA. Tickets start at $25 and are available at all Ticketmaster outlets or by visiting the EQC box office.

The hard-hitting Diaz is a perfect 9-0 with 8 KO’s as a professional and is one of the top young talents on the west coast. On January 20, 2012, Diaz stopped previously unbeaten Guy Robb in seven rounds on ShoBox: The New Generation. In his most recent bout, the 20-year-old Palmdale, CA native battered veteran Yogli Herrera, forcing him to quit on his stool after four rounds.

Rough, tough and battle tested, Sanchez’ resume speaks for itself. The Puerto Rican shared the squared circle with world champion Adrien Broner, contender Edner Cherry and undefeated prospects Mark Davis and Ronny Rios. Dubbed as “The Vampire,” Sanchez, 13-6-1 (5 KO’s), twice won bouts in the backyard of previously unbeaten opponents, outpointing Rod Salka and Eddie Irizarry.

Diaz-Sanchez is scheduled for ten rounds.

Retired Marine and crowd favorite Nate Serrano, 4-1 (1 KO), of Yakima, WA will look to win his second straight bout when he challenges Portland, OR’s Osvaldo Rojas in a six round welterweight contest. Serrano’s fresh off a dramatic second round stoppage of Nicholas Balestra while Rojas, 6-2-1 (2 KO’s), makes his first start since 2010.

Also appearing on the undercard is Canadian sensation Sarah Pucek against an opponent to be named. Other undercard bouts will be announced shortly.

Doors open at 6 pm and the opening bell is scheduled for 7.

During the last 23 years, Halquist Productions built a reputation in the boxing world for their loyalty, honesty and integrity. In 1997, Halquist Productions ran their inaugural “Battle at the Boat” series, which remains successful to this day. Halquist Productions promoted many world title bouts and their fight cards have been seen on ESPN, HBO and Showtime.

Austin Trout In Heavy Training For June 2

WBA World Junior Middleweight Champion Austin "No Doubt" Trout (24-0, 14 KOs) sounds tired. And he should.
Trout is in heavy training for his third title defense, against free-swinging junior middleweight contender Delvin "EL Peligro" Rodriguez (26-5-3, 14 KOs), on Saturday, June 2, at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California.

The 12-round Trout vs. Rodriguez clash will be part of a scheduled Quadrupleheader live on SHOWTIME® that also includes former light heavyweight champion Antonio "Magic Man" Tarver (29-6, 20 KOs) taking on unbeaten power puncher Lateef "Power" Kayode (18-0, 14 KO's); Ronald "Winky" Wright (51-5-1, 25 KO's) vs. Peter "Kid Chocolate" Quillin (26-0, 20 KO's); and Vusi "Marvelous" Malinga (20-3, 12 KO's) going against undefeated Leo "Terremoto" Santa Cruz (19-0-1, 11 KO's) for the vacant IBF Bantamweight World Championship.

The SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING telecast will air live at 9 p.m. ET/PT (delayed on the West Coast) on SHOWTIME® with preliminary bouts airing live on SHOWTIME EXTREME® beginning at 8 p.m. ET/PT.

"Training is going good. I'm tired, so it's doing its job," said Trout. "I'm excited. I can't wait for June 2 to come. I'm working so hard right now and it's all going good. I'm more excited now than I've ever been. In fact, I'm trying to curb it back because it's making my days go real slow."

26-year-old Trout lives in Las Cruces, New Mexico, where he, long-time trainer Louie Burke, and strength and conditioning coach Siju Shabazz have been putting in the work. "I run in the morning and do sprints, about four miles. Then we go to the gym for sparring and skills and drills, do about 20 rounds. Then my strength coach takes over and we get into calisthenics and biometric workout after that. It's rough."

Trout says he respects Rodriguez, but says this fight will be a wonderful chance to showcase his skills.

"He's a good fighter. I'm glad to be able to have a fight like this on this stage against an exciting guy like him, but honestly, I don't feel like he's on my level. It'll be a good fight. He's a warrior and he brings a hard fight for all 12 rounds, but I think I can get him out of there in the late rounds. It might be closer early, but I'll pull away in the later rounds for sure."

Trout says he's still the same guy he always was since winning the title, but has taken on more of a public role in his hometown, going around to schools and talking about bullying and how to prevent it. In the past year, he has visited over 10 schools and talked to more than 4000 kids.

"I'm hoping to get the Kardashian sisters to be my guests of honor at the fight," laughs the good-natured champion. "I saw Floyd had Justin Bieber in his corner. I want to be able to say forget Bieber. I got the Kardashians!"

The event is presented by A.T. Entertainment, Golden Boy Promotions and Gary Shaw Productions and sponsored by Corona and AT&T with Trout vs. Rodriguez being presented in association with Greg Cohen Promotions and Joe DeGuardia's Star Boxing and Malinga vs. Santa Cruz being presented in association with Branco Sports Productions.

Tickets for the June 2 event are on sale now for as low as $25, with VIP floor seats priced at $200. Other tickets in the 8,000-seat outdoor stadium at The Home Depot Center are available at $50 and $100. Fans can purchase tickets at AXS.com or by phone at 888-9-AXS-TIX (888-929-7849), as well as The Home Depot Center Box Office (open Monday through Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. PT). VIP Suites are available for purchase by calling 1-877-604-8777. For more information on group discounts or VIP packages, please call 1-877-234-8425.

MIAMI, FL - Two-time world champion Randall "The Knock Out King" Bailey, arguably the biggest pound-for-pound single puncher in boxing, finally gets an opportunity to exorcise years of demon-like frustrations on June 9, when he takes on unbeaten Mike Jones for the vacant International Boxing Federation ("IBF") Welterweight Championship, in the 12-round co-feature on the Manny Pacquiao-Timothy Bradley pay-per-view card, live from MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

For years, Bailey (42-7, 36 KOs) has been considered too much of a risk for some of today's brightest stars. Awesome, one-punch knockout ability will do just that to a fighter's reputation like Bailey's. Ask Jackson Bonsu and Frankie Figueroa, two of Bailey's 36 knockout victims, who were literally out cold before they hit the mat, after getting chin-checked by a powerful Randall right.

"Randall Bailey has been frustrated most of his career," his longtime manager Si Stern said. "He is unquestionably the strongest puncher in the world today and, I know this may sound crazy to some, maybe in boxing history. Just look at his knockout record. He's been shunned by a lot of top fighters out there today. Why? They know Randall can take them out with one punch. History tells us that dangerous punchers like Randall have always been avoided.

"Jones (IBF #1) didn't want to fight Randall (IBF #2), either. The IBF pushed the issue and said that Jones had to fight Randall or he'd lose his world title shot. Once he wins the world title again - he was too young when he was world champion - he knows the money will follow and that's what has kept Randall going. He has no fear of Mayweather, Pacquiao or any of the other top welterweights. Randall knows that he can knock out any of them because of his power. Mayweather doesn't want to fight Randall, who loves stand-up fighters like Pacquiao. His past problems have been against opponents who hit and run. Guys who stand and fight have never been a problem for Randall."

The 37-year-old Bailey, now promoted by DiBella Entertainment, made his pro debut in 1996, when Jones was sweet sixteen. Randall won his first 21 pro fights, all by knockouts, including his World Boxing Organization ("WBO") light welterweight title-winning performance against Carlos Gonzalez in 1999, followed by two successful title defenses against Hector Lopez and Rocky Martinez. In 2002, Bailey stopped Demetrio Ceballos in the third round to become the Interim World Boxing Association ("WBA") Light Welterweight Champion.

After losing his IBF 140-pound title shot in 2009 to Juan Urango, Bailey moved up in weight to welterweight, and he is unbeaten in four fights in that division with three victories, including the Bonsu knockout in their IBF title eliminator, and a no decision.

"I pleaded with him to get out of the 140-pound division," Stern note. "He walks around at 154 pounds, so making weight is no longer a struggle for him at welterweight. I bet he's within a few pounds of making weight for the Jones fight right now, working out in Florida with his trainer, John David Jackson. Jones has never fought anybody like Randall Bailey; he will knock out Jones."

Five of Bailey's seven career losses have been to world champions: Urango, Miguel Cotto, Ener Julio, and Diosbelys Hurtado. Randall has defeated three world champions: Gonzalez, Corley, and Juan Polo Perez.

Like fine wine, Randall Bailey keeps getting better with age, something Stern believes Jones will discover June 9, probably at the end of single, concussive punch.

Japanese Champion Charlie Ota Makes American Debut On Martinez vs Macklin Undercard

NEW YORK - The circuitous journey for Charlie Ota (19-1, 13 KOs), aka Charles Bellamy, comes full circle Saturday night in New York City as the 30-year-old junior middleweight makes his American debut, ironically, in the city in which he was born, nearly 6,800 miles from where he lives in Tokyo.

Ota faces veteran Gundrick "Sho-Gun" King (16-7, 11 KOs) in an eight-round bout on the undercard of "THE REAL Middleweight Championship - Get Your Irish Up" card, presented by DiBella Entertainment, Saturday evening (St. Patrick's Day) in The Theater at Madison Square Garden.

The 12-round main event features World Middleweight Champion Sergio "Maravilla" Martinez (48-2-2, 27 KOs), Ring Magazine's No. 3 pound-for-pound fighter, defending against former European champion Matthew "Mack the Knife" Macklin (28-3, 19 KOs). Undefeated super middleweight contender Edwin "La Bomba" Rodriguez (20-0, 14 KOs) takes on Don "Da Bomb" George (22-1-1, 19 KOs) in the 10-round "Bombs Away" co-feature that has possible future world title shot implications. Martinez-Macklin and Rodriguez-George will both air live on HBO's "World Championship Boxing," starting at 10PM ET/7PM PT.

Tickets, priced at $505, $355, $205, $125 and $65, are available to purchase through the Madison Square Garden Box Office, through Ticketmaster at Ticketmaster.com or by calling (866) 858-0008. Call DiBella Entertainment at (212) 947-2577, visit www.dbe1.com and @loudibella on Twitter for more information.

"Everybody's Irish on St. Patrick's Day, including Charlie, a kid from Harlem adopted by the people of Japan," show promoter Lou DiBella joked. "This is a unique homecoming for him, fighting halfway around the world, for the first time where he was born. Charlie is an exciting fighter who people are going to love to watch in action."

Ota was born in Harlem, where he lived for six years, eventually moving to South Carolina and then Maryland. In 2000, Charlie joined the U.S. Navy and chose to be stationed in Japan on the USS Gary, until being honorably discharged in 2004. Charlie briefly returned home to live in the United States but soon permanently moved to Japan. The only time he's left, until now for this fight, was after last year's devastating earthquake in Japan, returning home to Maryland to visit his mother and ensure family and friends that he was okay.

"Charlie came back because of the fight in him," his promoter Issei Nakaya remarked. "He has the patience and determination of a Japanese person. Charlie returned to Japan after our earthquake disaster and fought May 19 (2011) on a day called 'The Day of Boxing' by Japanese fans. It marks the day Japan's first world champion, Yoshio Shirai, won his title. I was very happy Charlie fought in the main event (W-TKO9 vs. Tadashi Yuba) on such a special day for Japanese boxing fans. He fought not only for himself, but for all Japanese who had suffered huge damages. I'd like to thank Lou DiBella for giving Charlie a chance to further his boxing career and represent Japan on this great U.S. show."

Originally, Charlie started taking college classes to work in Japan as an English tutor/teacher, and he soon found a nearby gym (Hachioji Nakaya Boxing Gym) to work out and keep in shape. "I decided to take up boxing and soon became pretty good at it," Ota explained. "Growing up, I always did a lot of fight training with a friend. Even in the military, I would hang a punching bag up in the helicopter hangar to work out. I soon became pretty good at it and decided to turn pro and see how far I'd go in boxing. I'm very happy that I got a chance to really see Japan and become a fighter at the same time. When I first came to Japan, I was on a ship that was often at sea, so I didn't get to really see Japan until I moved there."

Ota has done very well in the ring, too, capturing the Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation ("OPBF") and Japanese junior middleweight titles two years ago, followed by six successful title defenses, and he is presently rated No. 9 by the World Boxing Association ("WBA"), as well as No. 19 by the World Boxing Council ("WBC").

"I started boxing at 24," Ota added. "I had to put school on hold to box. I remember a lot of people telling me I was too old and that it was too late for me to be a professional boxer. I believed in my ability and wanted to see for myself. I'm happy with my success so far and still believe the best is yet to come."

Charlie Ota may turn out to be the best thing from Japan to hit New York City since sushi.
